September 15
September 15 dawned sunny and bright for our McIvor Lake Underwater Clean Up. Ten divers and five supporters gathered at Party Beach to plan our attack. Four divers travelled to the North Beach, three divers went to Doggy Point and two divers stayed at Party Beach to scour the bottom for garbage.
Each beach had its unique treats to dish up with mask, snorkel and fins coming from the north beach, tire rims and a toy dinosaur from the party beach and a lawn chair (still functioning) from Doggy Point. After hotdogs some of the divers did a second dive off Party Beach.
We estimate that we recovered about 500 lbs of garbage with most being cans and bottles, plastic cups, chip bags and golf balls. The divers did comment on how clean the beaches were but people must realize that chip bags and plastic cups don’t disintegrate underwater and shouldn’t end up there.
