[ Beaver Aquatics - Pumpkin Carving ]

1999

On October 24th, Campbell River divers joined divers from the Comox Valley for a SCUBA-style Hallowe'en celebration. Beaver Aquatics, Pacific Pro dive of Courtenay and the Pacific divers Scuba Club of Comox hosted the 3rd Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest at Union Bay.

[photo courtesy of Pacific Pro dive]More than forty divers entered the water with their trusty dive knives and surprisingly buoyant pumpkins. Their artistic endeavours were varied and unique.

While officials from 'The Eagle 97.3FM' judged the salty jack-o-lanterns, the divers competed for the coveted 'Hallowe'en In-Water Tug of War' trophy.
After heroic thrashing of water the Beaver Aquatics team, including Peter Marken, Kevin Attfield, Derrick Summers, Cynthia (from Powell River) and Mark Stephens, triumphed.

[Steve Grey and Paul Moquin, two happy winners of Sherwood masks.]Prizes for the event were donated by many of our suppliers; Aqualung Canada, Sherwood, Bare/Fitzwright and more, as well as local businesses, (lots of McDonald's meals on the way home ).

The day was a great success. The weather was glorious, everyone won a prize...a great time was had by all. Best of all, the money raised was donated to children's charities.

Mark your calendars for next year's contest. It's too much fun to miss!!!
